2 Poems: Grandma eating at Tao Payoh

Nenek makan di Tao Payoh

rambut perak putih pendek
kulit tipis tua sana sini bernoda
berhenti di meja siap makan
berbaju bunga ungu duduk di kursi roda

tubuh kurus tua tetap lapar
konsentrasi makan mie sambal sampai kenyang
mengunyah mengaduk menelan jadi senyum
ternyata ulang yang sederhana paling bikin senang

Grandma eating in Tao Payoh
Permed, short silver white hair
wrinkled, old, blotched skin
rested, upright in the wheelchair
flower purple blouse over her body thin.

Wheeled down from a flat for food
A plate of shiny noodles with spice
Gulping chewing mixing, a smiling mood
A simple thing repeated can be so nice.
